The White Ensign is flown over the French Tricolour to commemorate this mighty feat of

Victory, over a
Redoubtable foe, where Nelson
Dreadnought but instead attacked the
Leviathan in
Neptune’s realm many miles north of
Africa, in a
Formidable battle during which
Britannia and its
Royal Sovereign roared their
Defiance and turned from
Defence to
Revenge. A nation mourned its
Intrepide Conqueror who had become a
Heros like
Ajax or
Achille of legend
.
The captured French and Spanish ships as well as disabled Royal Navy vessels struggled on in increasingly stormy conditions toward Gibraltar on the 22nd October 1805. Many prizes foundered or were scuttled en route, but Napoleon’s naval challenge was shattered and the threat of invasion averted.
